About the Books

Is Divergent the first in a series?
Divergent is the first book of a trilogy. The second book, INSURGENT, came out in May 2012, and the third, which does not yet have a title, will be out in Fall 2013.

When does Book 3 come out?
October 22, 2013.

Will there be more than 3 books in the series?
I don't currently have any plans to write past the third book. To me, the story has always been three books long.

How can I get an ARC (advance reader's copy) of Book 3?
Sorry to disappoint, but there won't be any ARCs of Book 3. But there will be plenty of fun things to bide your time with until the final copy comes out! More on that later.

Will your book(s) come out in [insert country/language]?
Whether my books come out in a particular country or language, and when that happens, is up to the publishers in those countries. But if you check out the right sidebar, you'll see a list of the countries that have the rights to Divergent. I'll update it pretty regularly. For inquiries about foreign translation rights, please contact jean.mcginley[at]harpercollins[dot]com at HarperCollins US.

I have a book club/classroom/etc. Is there a Divergent discussion guide?
Yes! You can find it here

Is there a place to get Divergent merchandise?
Yes! Check this out.

About Movie Stuff

Is there going to be a Divergent movie?
Movie-making is a long and complicated process. That said, the following encouraging and great things have happened so far: the film rights have been sold to Summit Entertainment/Lionsgate; Red Wagon, a production company, has also signed on to work on it; Evan Daugherty, screenwriter, wrote a screenplay; Neil Burger has signed on to direct; Shailene Woodley has been cast as Tris; Theo James has been cast as Four; Kate Winslet has been cast as Jeanine; Ansel Elgort, Zoe Kravitz, Jai Courtney, and Maggie Q have been cast as Caleb, Christina, Eric, and Tori, respectively; shooting is scheduled to start in April of 2013, and in other news, my brain is constantly on the verge of exploding due to Awesome Overload.

Can I play Tris in the movie?
Finally my answer to this has officially changed--and it is that while I appreciate your enthusiasm, a Tris has already been cast! See the previous answer.

Can you cast [insert actor name here] as [insert character name here] in the movie?
I get a lot of casting suggestions! But the thing is, it's pretty normal for authors to have little or nothing to do with the casting of movie adaptations-- which for me is good, because it means I get to focus on what I really love: writing.

Why aren't you telling us any news?!
There are a few reasons why I might not be saying anything about movie stuff. Reason 1: there's nothing to say-- nothing has happened! Reason 2: maybe a few things have happened, but none of them are official yet, and I'm not allowed to share or comment on any information before it's official (for very good reasons). A good rule of thumb is to trust nothing and no one until I confirm a piece of news, because I promise you I announce news just moments after I am given the go ahead.

About You

Where can I get a signed copy of Divergent?
Two ways. First, if you live near one of the tour stops, come by and have me sign it! But because most people don't live near tour stops, you can request a signed copy of DIVERGENT from The Book Stall in Winnetka, IL, and they will send it to you.

Can I interview you on my blog/website?
Right now I'm working hard on book 3 and don't have much time for anything else, so I won't be able to do any interviews, sadly.

Can I e-mail you and ask you things/tell you my thoughts about your book/your blog/your shoes?
Yes! My e-mail is veronicarothbooks[at]gmail[dot]com, and you are welcome to send me your thoughts. Due to volume, I'm no longer able to respond to all my e-mails, but I do see them.

Why can't I comment on your blog posts?
Good question. You can read the full explanation here:

Can you read my short story, novel, work in progress, or Divergent fanfiction?
For a number of reasons, I can't read any of your work. I wish you the best of luck with your writing though.

Can I send you letters/gifts through regular mail to the address on your website?Due to the volume of mail I receive, I can no longer respond to fan mail that is sent to the address on my website. (I'll see it, but I won't answer.) So: please don't send a self-addressed stamped envelope for me to use to mail you back, or gifts, or books to be signed, or money!  Because I won't be able to send these items back to you, and all money will be donated.

About Me

How old are you?

How long have you been writing?
Since I was too old to play pretend, so: about 12 years.

How tall are you?
(Yes, this is a frequently asked question.) With shoes on, 6 feet, or for those on the metric system, 183 centimeters.

Who is your agent/your editor?
My agent is Joanna Stampfel-Volpe of Nancy Coffey Literary. And my editor is Molly O'Neill of Katherine Tegen Books.

Can you help me get in touch with them?
Sadly, no. But you can learn more about them here and here.

Will you be my facebook friend?
I'm not currently on facebook, but I do have a page here, and Divergent has a page here, if you want to "like" them. (Who knew that verb would develop two meanings?)

Are you on Twitter?
Yep! Check it out.

Are you on Tumblr?
Yep! Check it out.

What do you look like?
Well, when I'm having photos taken of me, I look like this:

But on normal days, I look like this:

...sort of.

What faction would you choose?
I used to say that I would choose Dauntless, but I've recently come to believe that's just wishful thinking (who doesn't want to think they'd be able to jump off a moving train and zipline off the Hancock building?). Really, when it comes to my aptitude and my affinity for a peaceful life, I think I would choose Abnegation. (I also tend to gravitate toward the factions/groups that no one else gravitates toward, so that could be part of the reason.) Also, selflessness makes you brave, right? So I'm really just covering all the bases.
